Y2k Fashion Trends

Writing by Cecilia Wheeler

On TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, the Y2K style is trending. Although the 2000s were an embarrassing and cringe-y time for many people, fashion-wise, there were also undoubtedly some of the most iconic styles which are coming back. Here are the most accessible and easy ways to channel Paris Hilton or Britney Spears the next time you step outside.

Shoulder/Baguette Bags

These are really easy to thrift and come in all sorts of colors. Being the perfect size for your phone and wallet, it is ultra convenient and chic.

Here are some updated styles:

Matching Sets

The 2000s are known for the obsession with Juicy Couture track sets. While in my opinion, they are still cute, matching sets a way to channel a similar energy without directly conforming to the Juicy Couture style or fit. An easier way to try this is also to choose one color for the whole outfit or to match accessories to the outfit.

Some Updated Examples:

Low Waisted Everything

After roughly 15 years of getting hated on by practically every person ever, low-waisted is regaining popularity. Thrifting low-waisted things is extremely easy; use it as an excuse to show off your gorgeous bod!

Bedazzling/Bling

A little bling nerve hurt anyone. This might be harder to find in thrift stores than the other trends. However, it's not impossible, (bedazzling doesn’t just have to be on t-shirts either) If you feel like getting crafty, you can also bedazzle your own designs with a bedazzler!

Pink

Any variation of pink is certified y2k vibes.

Trucker/Bucket Hats

These are super easy to throw on whenever you’re having a bad hair day or simply to spice up a look.

Denim on Denim

The notorious Britney and Justin canadian tuxedo is etched into all of our memories forever. However, that doesn’t mean that is always tacky.

Dresses/Skirts over Pants

Probably one of the most regretted trends, these newer takes on the trend prove that nothing is unsalvageable.
